Living in the dark, Ofoli Akakpo, a 55 years old farmer had a giant lipoma on his back. At the age of 35, he developed scrotal hernia which treated with some herbal concoction. Few weeks later, he noticed a swelling on his back and believed it was the scrotal hernia that has moved to his back. As years passed by, it developed into a giant lipoma.

Many a times when he came in contact with children, they scream “Ball! Ball! Ball!” upon seeing his seeming hunch back. His wife, some family members and friends deserted him. The stigmatisation that came along with his condition made him shy and resorted to being indoors most of the time.

Akakpo moved from one place to another seeking for help which never came until he was introduced to GRAFT Foundation. He explained how making ends meet became a challenge for him to the foundation since he found it difficult in breathing and performing heavy tasks, thus was unable to work on his farm.

Akakpo almost missed his chance to surgery when the phone contacts he provided during screening were all off and could not be reached. Personnel of GRAFT Foundation therefore visited his village at Kobikorpe in search of him. A grateful Akakpo was so happy the foundation had sent people to come for him.

After a terrific encounter with GRAFT Foundation, Ofoli Akakpo’s giant lipoma which weighed 8kg was removed and he is now living life like every other human being. He is now able to work on his farm, earn a living and once again take care of his family.
