The GRAFT foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) is expected to provide free cleft lip and palate surgeries to needy people especially children in the Greater Accra region.
The project dubbed, Accra Hope Project is expected to take place at the Dodowa District H0spital from April 1st to May 7th. This is the first of such project by the not-for-profit group in the capital after running similar projects in the other regions.
Cleft lip and cleft palate are openings or splits in the upper lip, the roof of the mouth (palate) or both. Cleft lip and cleft palate result when facial structures that are developing in an unborn baby don’t close completely. Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common birth defects.
Dr Brainerd Anani, Projects director of the GRAFT foundation interacting with Ghanahealthnest.com expressed optimism of the project following successful screening process on 21st and 22nd April, 2017 at the Koforidua Central Hospital and Dodowa Hospital respectively.
“The impact the project will make by restoring smiles to the faces of those who will receive the repairs, is our utmost goal” Dr Anani intoned.
